Mangaluru: Opposition leader in the Mangaluru City Corporation, Roopa Bangera along with other BJP leaders erected a sign board at Kadri but it was removed after the Mayor intervened.
It is said that they erected a board ‘Swami Vivekananda Road’ in front of Circuit House in the city as part of 154th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda a few days ago.
However, the board was removed as Mayor Harinath’s claimed that the original name of the road was ‘Kadri Jogi Mutt Street’ and not ‘Swami Vivekananda Road.’
Meanwhile, addressing a press conference on Monday, Roopa released certain documents claiming that the name of the road was ‘Vivekananda Road’ and not ‘Kadri Jogi Mutt Street.’ Roopa, Corporator of Kadri North Ward, released documents of a resolution adopted by the Mangalore Municipal Council (MMC) on May 7, 1963.
She told the media that they did not want to stage a protest in the name of Swami Vivekananda and thus came up with a peaceful solution. She requested the Mayor to get the board re-installed at the same spot.
