Mangalore : A fishing boat capsized off Someshwar coast on the night of December 25, Tuesday at around 9 pm. However, the seven fishermen on board the fishing boat named ‘Ashtil’ were fortunate as crew of another passing boat named “Pundalika” noticed them in distress and helped them.
It is learnt, the ship Ashtil hit against the wreckage of MV Asian Forest’ the Hongkong vessel that had sunk in 2009. The result was a crack in the boat and water entering in. The fishermen inside sensed danger, but thanked their stars when help came in the way of ‘Pundalika.”
The seven rescued fishermen are Selvakumar, Muruganandam, Ravi, Antony , Parameswar and Pasan. The boat is learnt to have suffered a loss of Rs 30 lakh due to the capsize.
