Mangaluru : All the 3,800 BPL households that do not have electricity connections will get electricity supply under the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyothi Yojana (DDUGJY), along with infrastructure development in the area to strengthen the existing lines and other works. A project proposal of Rs 405.66 crore has been submitted to the Ministry of Power, said MP Nalin Kumar Kateel.
Chairing the meeting of monitoring committee, constituted to implement the Integrated Power Development Scheme (IPDS) and DDUGJY here on Saturday, he said that the Ministry of Power has given nod for the implementation of IPDS at an estimated cost of Rs 68.13 crore in towns of Dakshina Kannada district.
The meeting decided to take up the work on laying underground cables in Mangaluru City under IPDS in a phased manner. Along with this, the work on strengthening the existing distribution lines in Mangaluru, Bantwal, Puttur, Ullal, Moodbidri, Mulki, Belthangady and Sullia towns will be taken up. The MP said there is a need to provide electricity connections to the remote villages of Banjarumale, Maaligemane and Elaneer where electricity lines cannot be drawn since they are surrounded by the forests. Hence, there is a need to instal solar panels to generate power to supply electricity to the households. Under the IPDS, solar panels will be installed in the government office buildings to generate electricity. This will also help in promoting green energy. An estimate of Rs 7.9 crore has been prepared for the same.
Mescom Superintendent engineer Sukumar said under DDUGJY, 12 sub-stations have been proposed along with installations of new transformers, laying of 11 kv line, new LT overhead line, changing of LT lines, metering of transformers, metering of LT, strengthening of the electricity network, upgrading of the sub-stations and other works will be taken up.
He said under Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana (SAGY), works worth Rs 80.562 lakh will be taken up in Balpa. This includes electricity connections to 21 beneficiaries in Balpa and Kenya villages, laying of 11kv HT line, setting up of 25kva transformer, and other works will be taken up.
Executive Engineer Manjappa said 33/11 kv sub-stations have been proposed at Arkula, Kotekar-Beeri, Mucchur, Edapadavu in Mangaluru taluk, Sarapady in Bantwal; Aladangadi, Soorya and Aladangady in Belthangady, Uppinangady in Puttur and Guthagar, Jalsoor and Sampaje in Sullia taluks.
MLA J R Lobo said there is a need to construct a sub-station at Urwa market. The Mescom can seek land from the MCC. The setting up of the sub-station will help in supplying uninterrupted power to Bengre and the surrounding areas. The executive engineer said work on Jeppinamogaru sub-station undertaken by the KPTCL has been halted due to objections from the residents. A sum of Rs 6 crore has been released to lay the underground cable from Karavali Circle to Hamilton Circle. The tender will be invited shortly to lay the underground cable.
