Udupi : Arrangements are presently underway to renovate the Brahmaratha of Sri Krishna Mutt of Udupi. The task has been initiated by Sri Vishwavallabha Theertha Swamiji of Paryaya Sode Vadiraja Mutt and the entire project is estimated to cost around Rs one crore, observes Balkur Gopal Acharya noted sculptor, who is heading the renovation works.
The Brahma Ratha was constructed around 250 to 300 years ago by Sri Vidya Samudra Theertha Swamiji of Sri Krishnapur Mutt.
The Brahmaratha would be renovated using teak wood which is long lasting . It has been decided to have the chariot in new style based on the old model. There are plans to get the chariot ready by the Saptotsava to be held in November.
According to Acharya, the renovation of the chariot would require 1000 square cubic feet of teak wood and the entire project is expected to be complete by November.
