Udupi : Udupi town police have registered a suo moto case against a doctor from a private hospital in Brahmavar of Udupi district for offensive and provocative comments against the Muslim community, in a post on ‘X.’

Dr. Keerthan Upadhya who is a laparoscopic surgeon has an X handle with the name Lonely Stranger. On July13 an X handle by name Abhi and Niyu handle had posted a question asking “If you could delete one thing from today-what would it be?” To this Dr Upadhya through X handle had replied as “Muslim Community.” A screenshot of this reply had gone viral on social media with calls for action against the doctor.

A case has now been registered against Upadhya as per the complaint lodged by Ajmal Ibrahim E A, in-charge sub-inspector (wireless) at the Social Media Monitoring Cell of Udupi District Police Office.

The complaint has sought action against Dr Upadhya for trying to disturb communal harmony through his post aimed at creating hatred between communities.

The doctor had initially claimed that someone had hacked his X account and posted the tweet. It is learnt, presently he has deleted his tweet and locked in X account. His handle name instead of Lonely Stranger has now become Stranger Solo.
