Udupi/Kundapur : The Brahmavar police have successfully arrested three persons on Tuesday August 26, in connection to the murder of home-alone elderly lady Girijamma Urala (84) at Manoor and recovered gold stolen from her.
The arrested are prime accused Nithin Achari (24), a resident of Manoor, Praveen K V (25) of Kumbashi, and Sanketh Gudigar (17), of Vakwady.
It is learnt that, police had first arrested Nithin and based on information revealed by him during interrogation, they arrested other two from Kumbashi.
It is recalled that, Girijamma, wife of Radhakrishna Urala, a resident near Mahalingeshwara Temple, Manoor was found murdered on August 20, Wednesday night. But, it came into light on next day.
The prime accused Nithin, who noticed Girijamma all alone in the house, plotted to rob her with the help of his friends Sanketh and Praveen. As per Nithin’s direction, Praveen removed the tiles of the roof and entered the house and opened the main door to let Sanketh inside the house.
In the mean time, Girijamma woke up and began to scream on seeing them. The accused, who got scared of being caught, filled the piece of cloth and covering her face with it. After looting the gold from her, they strangled Girijamma to death. Nithin was instructing other two from outside the house. The incident came into light, when neighbour came to give her milk.
The accused had pledged the stolen gold in S K Goldsmith in Koteshwar and at Kundapur’s Manappuram Gold. However, the police recovered the stolen gold weighing 31 grams worth Rs 78,000, from both these places. The police are also trying to recover the amount of Rs one lakh pledged in other place.
The police formed three teams under the guidance of SP Rajendra Prasad and succeeded in nabbing the accused and remanded in judicial custody.
