Brahmavar : Reportedly, a gang of youngsters used objectionable language, tried to attack Kota police sub-inspector, Nityananda Gowda,and obstructed him from discharging his normal duties near Shiroor Moorukai Junction during the early hours of Wednesday October 23.
Immediately on being alerted of the situation, Brahmavar police swung into action and successfully arrested Guruprasad (34), a resident of Mandarti Neerujeddu, Dileep, Sunil, and Kiran. The cops are on the lookout for the other accused that are currently on the run.
SI Gowda was patrolling in the police car when he saw three young men standing under the cover of darkness in front of a shop at Shiroor Moorukai and noticed that two motor bikes and a car were parked nearby. He approached the youngsters and questioned them, but they failed to give him a satisfactory answer. Needing more information from them, the SI made the youth stand together, clicked a photograph, took their cell phones and asked them to appear at Kota police station for questioning.
On further verification, the cop noticed that although the front door of Shubhalami Bar and Restaurant located nearby was closed, about 10 – 12 youngsters were consuming liquor behind the restaurant. On seeing the officer, the youngsters quickly switched off the lights. And as Mr Gowda was closing in on the location in the department vehicle, Guruprasad reportedly scolded him by using words which were derogatorily towards the sub-inspector’s mother, and also threatened him.
Meanwhile, eight to ten other men who accompanied Guruprasad blocked the movement of the police jeep, hurled filthy language against the PSI and tried to attack him with their bare hands.
In his complaint, the officer mentioned that all the youngsters were drunk and obstructed him from discharging duties at midnight and later left in their car and motorbikes.
A case in this regard has been registered at Brahmavar police station and is being investigated.
