Mangalore : Sri Vishwesha Theertha Swamiji of Pejawar Mutt has said that Brahmins were in no way responsible for the existence of the practice of untouchability in the society.
Addressing a Brahmins Awareness conference called ‘Brahmana Jagrathi Sammelan held at Sanghaniketan under the aegis of the Brahmana Federation, he said untouchability existed long before the Brahmins came into the picture.
He said it was wrong on the part of some people to blame Brahmins for untouchability. At the same time he pointed out that Brahmins were deprived of opportunity due to reservation. He said though Brahmins were divided into different groups, they are still united.
Dr. P Sadananda Mayya, Propreitor, Mayya’s Beverages and Foods Pvt Ltd, Bangalore, presided function. Vishwaprasanna Teertha Swamiji, Pejawar Mutt, Jitakamananda Swamiji, Ramakrishna Mutt, Mangalore, and others were present on the occasion.
