Mangalore: BSNL Non-permanent Workers Union (CITU) in association with Dakshina Kannada and BSNL daily-wage employees and contract workers staged an indefinite protest in front of the BSNL main office on October 11, Tuesday.
Addressing the protesters, CITU Dakshina Kannada district secretary Sunil Kumar Bajal, said that the authorities have done wrong to the employees by not providing any facilities.
Criticizing the governmental policies he said that the union government was encouraging the privatization of public organizations and escaping from social responsibilities.
Vasant Acharya, president, BSNL Non-permanent Workers’ Union said that labourers and contract workers must be given a permanent status in the company and CITU will fight to fulfill the demands of the employees.
He also demanded to re-appoint the workers who were discharged from their jobs and to stop the discrimination meted out by BSNL officials.
