Mangaluru : Minister for Urban Development Vinay Kumar Sorake and Mangaluru City South MLA J.R. Lobo has instructed the Mangaluru City Corporation to complete the construction of the new market buildings at Jeppu and Bejai by June 15.
At a meeting here, councillors said that the traders from the old market at Jeppu were shifted to makeshift tents in front of Bejai Church and they were conducting their business on the roadside.
The foundation stone for the market complex at Bejai had been laid in August, 2009Mr. Lobo said that work on two the buildings will have to be completed before monsoon and the buildings should be ready for inauguration by June 15.
Mr. Lobo directed that Antony Waste Handling Cell Pvt. Ltd which has bagged the contract for solid waste management in the city would have to remove the silt and clean the small drains before the monsoon on a priority basis.
Builders at the meeting alleged that there was a delay in issuing building licences, completion certificates and occupancy certificates.
Refundable security deposits of builders to the tune of Rs. 1 crore were pending with the corporation for over a year.
It should have been returned to builders.
Corporation commissioner Hepshiba Rani Korlapati said that it would be looked into and all attempts in a transparent way would be made to avoid delay from town planning section.
