Mangaluru : A builder and real estate owner in Mangalore who is the business partner of an Union Minister who hails from Dakshina kannada, pulled out his pistol and threatened to kill Human rights activists and owner of a land in Padushedde village at Bondel in Mangalore.

Dr.Thukaram Shetty a practicing doctor residing in Mumbai and his sisters own land measuring 2.26 Acres near Government Women polytechnic opposite to Dakshina Kannada Juvenile Home or Boy Home in Bondel. Dr.Thukaram Shetty had asked the Survey Department to survey his land mark the entire land and also the approach road. Dr.Thukaram who also got to know that Ashok Kumar Rai, a builder and real estate owner was showing interest in an adjoining land owned by his relative. Dr.Thukaram had apprehension that he or his men may create hurdles in exercising his rights of getting his land surveyed peacefully.

Hence Dr.Thukaram had approached the Human Rights Federation of India, Mangalore and had made a request in writing, seeking the help of that NGO, Executive Director, Vijay Prasad Alva, to get the entire process of survey done in a peaceful manner, without an hurdle to his rights. According the NGO on behalf of Dr.Thukram Shetty, a request letter to the Kavoor Police station was made to give Police assistance on Monday the 1st September, on the day, the Survey was to be done.

As planned the surveyor with his assistance had arrived on the land owned by Dr.Thukaram Shetty, and were to take up the work of first marking measuring and marking the approach road to his land and his relative land. Since the Police presence was not there, the concerned police station was contact over phone, who promised to send police personnel immediately. The process of measurement was going on and marking had just started, when Ashok Kumar Rai, had arrived at that land with a group of his hencemen and gained entry through the land owned by Dr. Thukaram shetty. They were then joined by his men who had already gained entry into the land and where there, which Dr.Thukaram shetty did not know.

Ashok Rai, started questioning the Surveyor and was directing him, to restrict his work of survey only to measuring the land and that he should not mark the land. Rai stated that is the owner of the land, and he would do the marking himself. At that point of time the Government Surveyor, said that apart from measuring, marking is also part of the surveyor’s job, to which Rai objected. At this point of time, Vijaya Prasad Alva, of Human Rights activists, requested Rai not to interfere, and allow the surveyor to do his job. Rai asked Alva, as to who is he to interfere, when he is talking to the surveyor. Alva had explained to him and said, that as Human Rights NGO, Dr.Thukram shetty has approached him for the organisations help.

Rai started raising his voice and there was a heated debate, when Rai raised his right hand and man handled on the left of his shoulder, making Alva react to it. Suddenly, Mr. Ashok Kumar Rai, pulled out a revolver and aim at Mr. Alva and threatened to kill shoot him. Persons who was standing near him, tried to stop Ashok Rai from pulling the trigger and Rai was shaking with anger and once again tried to shoot Alva, when, Dr.Thukram shetty came the way and tried to stop Rai. At that point of time Rai was stating that the was the owner of the land, and also stated abusing and scolding the Doctor Shetty in singular.

Moving away from the crowd, Ashok Rai came around and once again, charged towards Vijay Prasad Alva in a raised voice and abusing him, tried to manhandle him. When again the person around managed to pull him away. It was then that Vijay Prasad Alva, and Dr. Thukaram shetty went to kavoor Police station to lodge a written complaint. The inspector had come along with the Thukaram shetty and Alva and eased further tension.

Later in the evening Dr.Thukaram Shetty and Vijaya Prasad Alva met Sanjeev Patil, DCP (Crime & Traffic) and Shantaraju,DCP (Law & Order) with a written complaint. ACP North Madan Gaonkar had viewed also seen the Video clipping and directed the Kavoor Police Inspector to lodge a complaint and register an FIR.
