Mangalore : The officials of Bunder police station arrested 4 persons for making a false promise to a lady to procure the visa and taken Rs. 2 lakh from her, on Dec 2 Friday.
The arrested are Melwyn D’Souza (32) of Sootarpete, Rupesh Ravan Raj (23) of Valencia, Pradeep Kumar (32) of Kapikad, and Udaykumar Nayak (37) of Gorigudda.
Reportedly, in the complaint victim, Malathi of Bejai, stated that Melwyn D’Souza had collected the amount of Rs. 50,000 from her on May 27, 2010 assuring to obtain a visa for her son.
After collecting the money, Melwyn did not make it and whenever she called him, he said that the process is going on.
Later on Friday, Melwyn asked Malathi to meet him near the Sharavu Temple and said that he needed another Rs. 20,000 for visa. Malathi who had gone to the Bunder police station before meeting Melwyn refused to pay more money.
When Melwyn began demanding more money from Malathi and her daughter-in-law, the police, who were waiting nearby, came into action and arrested the Melwyn and his three friends.
The police also seized a car from the four men.
The Bunder police have registered a case and are currently investigating it.
