Mangalore : The bundh call given by the BJP and other opposition parties opposing FDI in retail sector and also opposing diesel price hike is near total in Karnataka. Schools, colleges as well as IT companies remained closed in various parts of the state including Bangalore.
Attendance of staff in state government offices was lean and so was the case with banks. As the BJP is one of the parties which has given for a bundh call and as there is a BJP government in the state, the government had made no serious effort to reduce inconvenience caused to the people due to the bundh.
Train passengers who arrived in the capital by train from various places were the worst hit in the absence of conveyance facility. Most had to rely on taxis as autorickshaws and buses too were off the roads.
On the other hand, KSRTC sources said the main reason for not running buses was lack of passengers. BJP workers staged protests in various parts of the state by taking two-wheeler rallies.
