Mangalore: Tuesday was a strike day and not a May Day, for agitated service bus drivers and conductors, who went on a snap protest act, against the alleged assault on a Bus driver at Mithakodi near Mudipu, by the Pajeer GP Chairman.
The hot protest was staged in front of Konaje police station. It was stated that GP chief Nazeer Mohideen vehicle to move on for a long time.
Enraged over the issue, service buses plying to Bantwal Cross Road and Vitla via Mudipu, were suspended, causing considerable inconvenience to usual passengers.
The bus employees told reporters that a GP chairman should not assault a service Bus driver for whatever reason, it is an act Condemnable in public. The police should arrest the offender.
But ZP member Santosh K. Boliar stated that GP chief should have avoided such confrontation, as an elected member. It is the 3rd time a bus driver is getting the kicks and slaps in 2 months. Such injustice had to be fought.
Protestors alleged that they had no security on roads. Whatever the quarrel, bus commuters had to walk or take other Vehicles(like Taxi or autorickshaw), to reach their destinations on Tuesday, May Day.
