Mangalore : District Administration, Bus operators, RTO officials and general public had a public discussion meeting on June 3, Tuesdaty at Deputy Commissioner’s office to revise private bus fares immediately.
The DK District Bus Operators Association demanded that to revise of private bus fares without delay. Rajavarma Ballal, President of the Canara Bus Operators Association make cleared bus operators cannot afford the cost of the existing prices. Due to the increase in diesel price, spare parts and other expenses, the rate increase is needed.
Pointing to the diesel rate, bus can get a mileage of 3 to 4 km per liter. The diesel cost is more than Rs 61 per lite, Shimoga and Chikmagalur other places already, bus fares have been increased, Ballal said.
Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim said without notification or approval from the RTO Bus fares cannot be revised. After a final discussion, officially notified the increased bus fares to public.
He also ordered installation of computerized ticket issuing machines on all city, rural and service buses before July end.
Hanumanth Kamath of Nagarika Hitharakshana Samithi said, the city buses and contract carriage buses have been violating the rules, in case of accidents and emergency they have no emergency exit doors.
BK Imtiyaz, DYFI leader said that, some of the private busses are not issuing tickets. The RTO authority concerned must take appropriate action. if the private bus owners are finding it hard to operate the buses, they should allow the KSRTC buses to run, he said.
RTO Afzal Ahmed Khan, additional DC Sadashiva, office-bearers and members of DK district bus owners’ association and Canara Bus Owners’ Association, officials, representative of various associations and public were present.
