Mangaluru : The problems faced by people during the ‘Rajata Sambhrama’ of South Canara District Central Cooperative Bank president M.N. Rajendra Kumar reflected in the phone-in programme here on Friday.
A caller told Police Commissioner T.R. Suresh that the procession to Nehru Maidan and the large congregation at the event hampered traffic.
The KSRTC which had diverted some of its buses for the convention did not provide advance information to people on the same and alternative arrangements made, the caller said. “An official spoke in a rude manner and did not tell me the number of buses diverted. He did not reveal the alternative arrangements made,” the caller said.
He said the KSRTC and the city bus operators should give clear information to commuters in advance about the alternative arrangements made while diverting buses for such mega events.
KSRTC Mangaluru Divisional Controller M. Deepak Kumar, claimed that a day before the event people had been informed through the media about the diversion of buses for the event and alternative arrangements made.
Mr. Kumar said 88 buses had been rented out for the event and 60 buses had been operated in their place.
While stating that trips to some routes were cut on January 19, Mr. Kumar said many of the KSRTC buses were caught in gridlocked traffic in the afternoon.
On the need to regulate gymnasiums and zumba centres, Mr. Suresh said notices have been served to 84 gymnasiums and 15 zumba centres in the city.
“We have called them for a meeting where we will tell them to conduct operatoins in a proper way,” Mr. Suresh added.
