Udupi: The media persons these days magnify small matters to look big, and often ignore national issues and topics of safety and furtherance of Indian nation.

There is nothing special about the MP Bypoll due on March18 in Udupi-Chikkamagalur constituency vacated by an MP who turned CM in September 2011.

Even the presence of too many leaders filmstars, and parties, even candidates(12) cannot make the by-poll a big issue.

There are 15 candidates and 3 parties in the fray. What stakes have they got but only one year’s membership in Lok Sabha and the benefits it conjures to the Winner.

Neither the political spectrum will change, nor any Government, will fall with the outcome on March21.

The change, if any, is outside the limits of this constituency, in the foolish attempts of an aggressive Yeddyurappa, to replace DVS Gowda as CM.

Gowda can overthrow Yeddyurappa if he so wants, like David smashing a Goliath, to be the Jewish King in Jerusalem history.

It is Gowda who is dithering now, with many issues assailing him like removal of Shankar Bidari as IGP-the latest and selecting a Lokayukta, among others.

The RSS has a strong base in Udupi-Chikmagalur and its cadre is known for carrying out a systematic but low-key campaign and that is the plus point for Sunil Kumar. Congress in however, banking on Hegde’s clean image and the scandal-ridden rule of the BJP.

The fact that he had lost by a narrow margin last time has bolstered the party morale.  The party leaders have buried their differences presenting a façade of collective leadership during the election campaign.
