Mangalore : Konkodi Padmanabha, President, CAMPCO ltd at the press meet Tuesday, September 7 said that according to the Arecanut Research and Development Foundation’s (ARDF) research team have proposed that the rates of the production cost of arecanut be fixed at Rs 114 per kg and Rs 148 per kg for red arecanut.
The existing rates are Rs 69 and Rs 89 for arecanut and red arecanut respectively.
He also said, in this regard the report would be submitted to the state government on the revised prices by this month end, later it will be forwarded to Union government.
Dr G V Joshi, Head of the research team said there is difference between the production cost and the regional prices. if arecanut gets good minimum support price and becomes profitable, then there will be improvement in paddy growing.
People consume arecanut more than producing it. Farmers shift to arecanut growing just because of the profits involved in it.
