Mangalore: When Hindus and Muslims are ahead in celebrating Janmashtami and Ramzan (Id-Milad) these days, Catholics cannot be behind too far, and to, they had a Monthi Fest on Tuesday, Sept. 7th, with a candle light and new crops procession from Attavara to Milagres Cathedral, followed by a Holy Mass and a feast at home.
Ignatius Pinto, retired Archbishop, blessed the throngs, at the point of commencement (of the procession) in Attavara. A figure of blessed Mary with infant and a singing choir passed on streets to the holy church, where the images of Mary and infant were ceremoniously installed at the Altar.
Children carried flowers which they offered to infant Mary on way. Thousands of Catholics, old and young, took part in this procession led by the Parish priest, Fr William D’ Mello and his assistants.
Another procession is held on Wednesday, today from Church Hall to the Church at Milagres at 8 am, followed by a Holy Mass.
