Udupi: The Shirva police on Monday seized two vehicles and rescued nine cows that were being trafficked in Herur. The cattle traffickers however managed to escape from the spot.
It is a gathered that, Shirva police station sub-inspector Shivananda noticed two cars speeding suspiciously from Katpadi towards Shirva when he was was on night patrol at Subhashnagar at around 3.15 am on November 14. The cars did not stop despite him signaling them hence he called police on night duty at Shankarapura and chased the cars. The car drivers stopped the vehicles nearby Herur Mahalingeshwara temple and fled.
The vehicles seized are, a silver colour Scorpio and an ash colour Maruti Swift. The cows were being trafficked in the Scorpio and their legs were tied with rope inside the vehicle. Three knives were also found under the seat in Scorpio vehicle. Swift car had no number plate behind it.
