Moodbidri: After three deaths in two months at Nagundi waterfalls, the officials have woken up and have decided to instal a caution board at the site.
Moodbidri Tahsildar Mohammed Isaac, who visited Nagundi waterfalls area on Monday, directed Puthige gram panchayat to take precautionary measures to prevent any mishap.
Three youths have lost their lives in the waterfalls in the last two months. The people who visit the site often get into the swirling waters for a swim, which is dangerous.
“It is not safe to get into water and swim in the water at Nagundi waterfalls. As people have lost their lives, it is better to warn the visitors by putting up a board at the site,” said the tahsildar.
He said the authorities are also mulling over appointing a security guard at the spot with the help of elected representatives and Police department. The warning signage will inform the public to keep a safe distance from the dangerous spots for safety.
Gram Panchayat member Shashidhar Nayak said, “It is not the locals who visit the waterfalls. Youth from outside the gram panchayat visit the waterfalls to spend their holidays. As they are not aware of the depth of the water, they get drowned.
“The gram panchayat has also decided to take suitable action prevent any accident. It would be better if a police personnel is deployed at the site during the holidays. To prevent the tourists from getting into water, warning signage will be put on the road leading to the waterfalls. The police will be asked to initiate action against those who refuse to follow the warning signage,” he said.
