Bangalore: Te state government has submitted an appeal to the Cauvery River Authority to immediately withhold the order of the PM to release 9000 cusex of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu and to reconsider the decision. It has also appealed to the Centre to constitute a committee of experts to study the facts regarding the Cauvery water.

The appeal has been forwarded to the PM’s office through fax on Thursday night itself after an all party meeting of leaders of both the houses convened under the presidentship of Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar. On Friday, a senior official of the state government has personally handed over the appeal to the prime minister.

An effort has been made to convince the prime minister that Karnataka would suffer in the case of release of water to Tamil Nadu. Cauvery reservoir presently has 76 TMC of water, of this if 9000 cusex is released for  25 days on a daily basis, it would reduce the water by 20TMC which would mean the state is left with just 56 TMC of water of which 30 TMC has be to be utilized towards drinking water supply.

The  all party meeting pointed out that the Tamil Nadu Government has provided false information to the Authority on the statistics.

The all party meeting attended by Opposition leader Siddaramaiah, HD Revanna and others decided not to release water to Tamil Nadu as directed by the Cauvery River Authority. Deputy Chief Ministers KS Eshwarappa, R Ashok and state ministers also attended the meeting.
