Kochi: Sevan persons, including a CPI(M) secretary of Kumble, K. Sudhakar Master, were convicted in the youth Congress leader Abdul Jabbar(24) murder case, after rejecting bail petitions, in Kasaragod and High Court of Kerala earlier, on March29, Thursday, for a crime committed on November 3, 2009 at night, by a group of assailants.
Jabbar was hacked to death by some CPI(M) workers at Banuttadka(near Perla) when he was in a car with a friend, returning home.
The convicts included 3 Muslims and 4 Hindus. Two persons accused had turned approvers(or informers) and five others were let off by the court.
Several others were acquitted as there was no evidence. Political rivalry was the only motive behind the unruly act.
CBI took up the case when Badiyadka police could not carry on investigation, due to politicians intervention in the case. CBI arrested 14 persons within a month of investigation, under Congress rule.
