Udupi : The Central Excise department officials seized 18 gold biscuits weighing 1,800 grams in the bus, parceled by a jeweler on June 29, Tuesday.
Suresh Shet, a jeweler and owner of the seized gold, said that officials that, he had bought 20 gold biscuits of 100 grams each, weighing 2000 grams of worth Rs 36 lakhs from Micro International Bangalore. On June 22, he parceled same gold in Durgamba Motors, along with his person to avoid risk.
But finally, the owner received stones instead of gold biscuits; hence he had registered complaint against the accused at Sheshadripuram police station. As the culprit was aware of the complaint filed against him, he sent the 18 gold biscuits instead of 20 by bus to Rajashree Enterprises belonging to owner.
The officials said the gold will remain in their custody till the investigation is completed and clear all doubts and investigate whether it is tax paid gold or smuggled gold.
