Mangaluru: Urging to meet the various demands of farmers, Karnataka Prantha Raitha Sangha (KPRS) staged protest in front DC office on Friday.
Addressing the protestors district President of KPRS K R Shriyan said that though farmers approached the government many times in past many years the government hasn’t responded positively for the woes of poor landless people.
“The agricultural police of the Central government have forced farmers to commit suicide. Central government is forming the agricultural policies in favour of industrialists. Many farmers are living on government land and due to lack of knowledge they are not transferring the title deeds to their name. Utilising this opportunity the government is transferring the title deeds to industries,” he said.
He further said that the land have been given to farmers only in Kerala and West Bengal where left wing rules. No other states are bothered about doing this. The excess land which is owned by the landlords in left ruled states has been occupied by the government and given to poor farmers.
“The sangha demands the government to look into the matter seriously and to allot houses for the landless people who are living in government land,” he added.
The protestors attempted to picket the DC office and they were stopped by the police and arrested. Later, they were released by the police.
K Yadav Shetty, Sunil Kumar Bajal and others were present.
