Mangaluru : The construction work for Central Prison at Mudipu in Bantwal will have all the modern security systems in place and the construction works would be complete in the next two years, said DGP (Prisons) Alok Mohan.

Speaking to reporters at the City Police Commissioner’s Office on March 2, Tuesday he said, In Dakshina Kannada, we have a district jail which is quite small and can accommodate 300 inmates in it. the new prison will have a capacity to accommodate 1,000 prisoners. He said the Department will initiate strict action to prevent prisoners from using ganja and banned substances inside the prison.

As Covid pandemic has still not subsided visitors are not allowed to meet prisoners, he said adding meetings are allowed only through phones and e-mualaqat.

Police commissioner N Shashi Kumar, DCP Hariram Shankar and others were present.
