Udupi: Udupi City Municipal Council (CMC) general body meeting witnessed a tough day on Wednesday. BJP councillors walked out of the meeting.
Argument started with the proposed agenda of demolishing and constructing new building of Visvesvarayya building at Shribidu ward. Opposition leader Dr M R Pai asked the President to postpone the agenda as the council haven’t informed him about the agenda in advance.
CMC President Meenakshi refused the request. Raged by this BJP council members walked out of the meeting. The meeting was postponed for five minutes and the President tried to convince opposition party but it went in vain.
After adjourning the meeting CMC Commissioner Manjunath said that new building of Visversvarayya commercial complex will be built adjacent to the present KSRTC building. Proposal of this building was passed in 2010 during BJP’s tenure.
“The complex will be spacious than the present one. 26568 sq ft land is available for the construction as per the proposal. Tender is also called for the building through media. Only two companies had taken participation in the tender process and one company was eliminated in the process,” he explained.
Councilors demanded for the repair of potholes as soon as possible.
Vice-President Sandhya Kumari and other councilors were present.
