Mangalore : The Sisters of Charity of St. Capitanio and Gerosa (SCCG) observed the platinum jubilee celebration at Belvedere in Angelore recently.
The SCGG was established in Mangalore in 1898 by Sr. Alesandrina Sormani, Sr. Maddalena Merghetti, Sr. Fiorenza Ronzoni, and Sr. Franceschina Luraschi.
It was founded on Nov 21, 1832 at Lovere in Italy by Bartolomea Capitanio, whose first companion was Caterina Gerosa. Bartolomea died 8 months after the institute was founded on July 26, 1883. Caterina, who later took the name of Sr. Vincenza Gerosa, continued the good work and died on June 29, 1847 after handing it over to several other sisters. The two were canonized by Pope Pius XII on May 18, 1950.
