Mangaluru : The VI Additional District and Sessions Judge D.T. Puttarangaswamy has sentenced a 31-year-old married man to five months imprisonment and fined him ₹20,000 for cheating a 25-year-old woman.
According to the Konaje police, Rajesh Poojary promised to marry the woman and had sex with her in 2015. When the woman asked him to marry her Rajesh refused and told her that he was already married.
The woman became pregnant and delivered the child at Government Lady Goschen Hospital in 2016. When the doctor enquired about the father, she was sexually assaulted without her consent.
The Konaje police arrested Rajesh and filed a chargesheet accusing him of offences under Sections 417 (cheating) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code.
The judge sentenced Poojary to four months rigorous imprisonment and imposed ₹10,000 fine for the offence under Section 417.
He was also sentenced to five months rigorous imprisonment and fined him ₹10,000 for the offence under Section 506. The two sentences will run concurrently, the Judge said.
The Judge directed Poojary to pay ₹1.5 lakh as compensation to the child within four months.
Of the fine amount of ₹20,000, the woman will get ₹15,000 as compensation.
