Mangalore: A Cheshire home is one in which old, poor and neglected Christmas persons find their last resort, begun by an Englishman Lord Cheshire decades ago. One such home exists in Suvarna Lane of Kankanady, near Fr. Muller’s Hospital.
The Ladies’ Social Service Leagues (LSSL) and the Cheshire home residents organised the approaching Christmas (Dec 25) festival season celebrations in advance on Wednesday, Dec 14, led by Octavia Albuquerque a former MLC.
Residents of Cheshire Home performed the invocation prayers by a song. Fr. Roshan Capuchin explained the Christmas significance in a message.
When anyone does good to others in society, that one receives god’s blessings and strength to do more. He stressed on dedication to do good to poor and downtrodden people. God takes various forms in social service to society, he said.
Veteran musician F.M. Labo presented Carol songs, while ladies of SSL presented Kuswar (delicacies), cakes and gifts to all members of Cheshire home.
DC, Dr. Gowda addressed the gathering. Violet Pinto delivered a vote of thanks. Santa Claus too arrived with lots of goodies to an end with the National Anthem.
