Mangaluru : The Karnataka State Legal Service Authority, District Legal Service Authority, District Administration, Juvenile Justice Board, Bar Association and Women and Children’s Welfare Department jointly organized a day long workshop and an interaction programme on Juvenile Justice Act and Protection of Children at Netravati Auditorium in Zilla Panchayat office on Saturday, February 7.
Karnataka High Court Chief Justice D H Waghela inaugurated the workshop and said that the act is conducted by the principle to provide care and protection to a child and not to punish it. The main aim is to reverse the process of the child’s mind while it is going towards doing wrong, said.
Child needs a heart of woman to know the pain. If a child makes a crime he should not be tried as a hardened criminal, Justice said.
Dr Sharanappa said that, when parents do not have enough time to give attention to their children, the latter are likely to go astray. Parents should take care for their children’s he said.
High Court Judge Huluvadi G Ramesh presided. Dakshina Kannada District Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim, Principal District and Sessions Judge Uma M G, High Court Judges Abdul Nazeer and A N Venugopal Gowda, Karnataka State Bar Council Chairman P P Hegde and Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Tulasi Maddinneni were present among others.
