Mangaluru : A meeting of the representatives of parents and educational institutions will be held to create awareness on child right protection in educational institutions, said DCP (Law and Order) Hanumantharaya.
The Child Protection Rules have been framed by the state government, he reminded. The DCP was speaking at monthly SC/ST grievances meeting in Mangaluru on Sunday.
As per the rules, a committee should be constituted in all educational institutions when a female child faces a problem. Whenever they receive complaints, the grievances from both the sides should be heard and the guilty should be guided. The educational institutions should be committed to the protection and safety of female children, the officer explained.
In the backdrop of the suicide of a student in a college, the sale of ganja in college premises, there is a need to instil confidence in the students. The police will organise meetings to install confidence. The meetings will issue guidelines on the Pocso Act, ban on drugs and warnings on use of mobile phones.
There is a need to create awareness on the legal issues related to atrocity or any other crimes, said Hanumantharaya.
When Dalit leader Girish Kumar said that a lone woman is being harassed by sending unwanted messages, the DCP promised to take action under IT Act.
