Beltangady: The chairman and members of the Child Rights Protection Committee on Monday December 24 visited the family of Sowjanya, the SDM College student who was brutally raped and murdered in October.
During the Commission’s visit, the family of Sowjanya while stating that it had strong doubts that Sowjanya was murdered elsewhere and then the body dumped at Pangala, also expressed its dissatisfaction over the Commission which took almost over two months to meet them.
The Commission gathered information regarding the case from the family of Sowjanya, the locals as well as from the departments concerned.
Speaking on the occasion, the Commission Chairman Umesh Aradhya HR said the Commission aimed at protecting the rights of children below 17 and would come to the aid of those who have been exploited or harassed either physically or mentally. He said he would urge the authorities to expedite the CID probe into the case and also said the Commission would submit its report to the government through the department concerned.
