Mangalore, Feb 23: The Former Kiwi Captain Chris Cairns will lead his team of International cricket stars from Australia, to play against DIX Group DKCA Mangalore Warriors, the pride of Dakshina Kannada Cricket for the prestigious Maruthi Suzuki Chris Cairns T20 Cricket Cup at the NMPT Cricket Stadium on February 25, Friday, said Joseph Rego, head of Chris Cairns Foundation.
Speaking at the press meet held at Hotel Gateway on Feb 23, Wednesday, he said that Chris Cairns would conduct a cricket work-shop for young and budding cricketers and cricket enthusiast during which the Kiwi all rounder would share his life experiences with generation- next offering them valuable cricketing tips and techniques. The coaching clinic scheduled to be held at NMPT cricket stadium for security reasons, he mentioned.
Dr Srikanth Rai, president of Dakshina Kannada Cricket Association unveiled the Maruthi Suzuki Chris Cairns T20 Cricket Cup on the occasion. Dr Rai stressed in his top priority of inculcating a sense of sporting activity to the children of DK at 12.30 pm.
He also said that the city would witness major events featuring International Cricket celebrities from time to time.
The serious game of cricket would kick –off at 2pm at NMPT Cricket Stadium, Panambur, following the International rules of the game. But the overall stadium atmosphere would be electrifying with DJ music and cheer leaders dancing to the latest hits of their favourite bollywood stars mentioned Joseph Rego.
John Milan, Branch Manager of FCM Travel said that the ticket have been reasonably priced at Rs 100 and will be sold at the gates on the day of the match offering the audience a treat for their money. The tourney has been organize to the game of cricket to its highest level in Mangalore and shall pursue for the speedy construction of the new Mangalore Cricket Stadium.
He also said that the Chris Cairns Foundation has been associated itself with Mangalore’s voluntary charity organization Round Table which is headed by Arjun Pinto. The round table has been actively involved in supporting various charities and fund raising activities across the city and would be delighted to support the Chris Cairns Foundation by donating the hearing implant operation of one child of Dakshina Kannada which will cost around Rs 2 lakhs arranged by the Foundation.
Round Table would jointly host the Chris Cairns Charity Ball the same evening at the Boat Club, Sultan Battery, Mangalore. Mumbai’s high- profile band Bryns is being flown down to perform live at the occasion offering Mangalorians the rare opportunity to mingle with International Cricket stars and dance the night away to the scintillating hits of Bryns. Ticketing have been reasonable priced at Rs 800 per couple and Rs 500 single inclusive of a sumptuous buffet dinner and will be sold to the first 400 guest on a first come first served basis, he added.
Chris Cairns X1 will comprise of Chris Cairns (captain), Marc Archer, Tom Hoban, Tom Urqhart, Zulf Hyatt- Khan, Graham Enever, Andy Warkman, Andrew Croft, James Wyndham, Eben Pollitt, Anthony Davies, Duncan Raeside and Oliver Roborgh and DIX Group Mangalore Warriors will include Daniel Sequeira (captain), Nishith Raj, Ashreen B, Sachin Kanchan, Bharath Dhuri Vinay GK, Harshith, Prithiv Raj, Hariprasad K, Yashraj Sharma, Nikhil Raj, Sawan Puthran, Nihl U, Shameek K, Samuell Jayaraj (coach), he said.
