Mangalore : Margaret Alva, Uttarakhand Governor speaking at a civic reception said that she moved to Karwar to compete in the Lok Sabha elections a few years back as she was not given ticket in her own constituency.
She was speaking at the event which was jointly organized by Milagres Church Centenary Celebration Committee, Catholic Association of South Canara (CASK), and Catholic Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RACHANA) at the Milagres Jubilee Hall on Dec 18, Saturday.
Speaking about her 40 years political career, she said that she did not enter the field with her owner interest, but still she never regrets her move.
She claimed that, her political career has been clean of scams and scandals with the inspiration from her husband Niranjan Alva. People say that I never worked for Christian community and these allegations are false. I have always condemned the atrocities against minority Christians in Kandamal and Gujarat, she added.
Aloysius Paul D’Souza, the bishop of Mangalore Diocese, felicitated Margaret Alva since she is the first Mangalorean Catholic to be appointed as the governor of an Indian state.
Parish priest of Milagres Church Rev. Fr. Walter D’Mello, welcomed the guests and gathering.
Captain John Menezes, former president of KCCI, introduced Mrs. Alva. Dr. Derick Lobo, the president of CASK, read out the citation. John Noronha, the president of RACHANA, proposed the vote of thanks.
