Mangalore : The Christian community celebrated Palm Sunday with great devotion on April 1, Sunday in various churches across the city.

According to the Christian calendar, they believe that, on Palm Sunday, Jesus triumphantly entered the city of Jerusalem, just a week before his death and resurrection.

His followers waved palm leaves into the air in his honor as he rode into the city. Christians, therefore, can be observed holding palm leaves on this day, which is also referred to as Passion Sunday.

Palm Sunday marks the beginning of the Holy Week, which concludes on Easter Sunday. Palm leaves were blessed and distributed among devotees today in churches all over the city.
