Mangaluru: “There is need of joining citizens with the police department to curb the traffic offenses and problems to make the city as a safe city. And the police department cannot take the responsibility of all the traffic issues, because there are many reasons behind various issues,” said Mangaluru police Commissioner Chandra Sekhar.
He was addressing the gathering in an interaction session organised by Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) on Tuesday at KCCI hall.
“Bad road conditions, urban planning’s and other several reasons are there for the traffic issues. Blaming the police department is not the right way to get a solution. Police don’t do the planning, then why to blame police?” he questioned.
He further said that though the traffic management comes under the police department, police are not responsible for hundred percent traffic controls. There should be a proper urban planning and infrastructure so that it will be helpful to the police to control the traffic and to manage it.
“Concerned authorities like NHAI, MCC, MUDA, PWD and others should also take care of traffic problems during planning a project. We are discussing with these departments regularly regarding the traffic issue,” he added.
Further commenting on law and order he said “we should have fear of law not of police. For the first time in the history of Mangaluru an ganja has been booked under Goonda Act and sent to Bellary jail. Moreover, to control the traffic woes the department has introduced mobile app, whatapp service andfacebook service also.”
President of KCCI Jeevan Saldanha and others were present on the occasion.
