Mangalore : Various construction workers under the aegis of CITU staged a protest in front of Assistant Labor Department office on September 15, Monday demanding better facilities for them.
Addressing the protestors, CITU chief secretary Vasanth Acharya said that, several construction workers have applied for the facilities in 2012-13. But due to shortage of staff in Assistant Labour Commissioner Office, the applications for benefits by workers are lying unattended in the office.
He also urged the government to simplify the process of applying for the benefits for the welfare of the workers.
The state government has created a brand as ‘pro-poor’, while they are not sincere in helping the poor. Both the congress and BJP are not different to each other. Hence, the labour office must clear all the pending files and provide facilities to the beneficiaries as soon as possible.
Secretary Sunil Kumar Bajal urged the government to make use construction workers welfare fund for the welfare of these workers.
Ravichandra Konchadi, Lokesh M, Yogish Jeppinamogaru and members of Karnataka State construction workers Federation were present.
