Mangalore : Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) organized a protest in front of DC Office on April 19, Thursday, against the “anti-labour” policies of the State government.
Addressing the protestors, B Madhava, secretary of CPI(M) said that although the government constituted a committee to decide on payment of Rs. 10,000 as minimum wages to daily-wage labourers two years ago, no meeting had been convened so far. Hence the government must take immediate decision to implement it.
He also said that though the numbers of contract labourers have increased, there no benefits and their wages have not increased.
The members were irked over the complexities of Food Security and Standard Act implemented by Central Government and provision of punishment against traders over minor mistakes.
Corporator Jayanthi, BM Bhat, Vasanth Achary, Sunil Kumar Bajal, Muneer Katipalla, Balakrishna Shetty, U B Lokkayya, Parvathi Shetty, Ramani, Sadashivdas and Sanjeev Bangera were present.
