Mangalore: The CITU staged a protest in front of the Bunder dock gate on May 24, Thursday to condemn the continuous assault of the drivers of the fish laden lorries that move from the dock towards Kerala.
Speaking on the occasion, CITU leader Vasanth Achary said the repeated appeal to the district administration to look into the complaints have been futile and that the lorry drivers continued to be assaulted for no fault of theirs despite them taking measures to prevent fish water from dripping from the vehicles by having insulators.
However, Kerala lorries which come here to load fish and return drip fish water from the vehicles, and fail to initiate any action to solve the problem. Still, only fish lorry drivers from Karnataka are targeted in Kerala, he said and demanded stern action against the guilty.
Several CITU leaders including Sunil Kumar, BK Ismail, Abdul Lateef and others took part in the protest.
