Mangalore: The members of the district unit of the CITU staged a protest in front of the DC office in Mangalore on July 11, Wednesday in support of several of their demands including a minimum wage of Rs 10,000 as per the decision taken at the 15th Indian Labour Conference, which was once again approved at the 44th conference held recently.
B Madhava, CITU Vice President, who addressed the agitators alleged that the policies of the government was detrimental to the interest of the working classes and was more in favour of the capitalists.
He demanded that the system of appointing labourers on contract system should either end or they should be provided all facilities on par with the permanent workers.
Sunil Kumar Bajal, CITU District Secretary and others addressed the agitators.
