Mangalore: The private bus companies in DK district do not want KSRTC buses to run on their city routes, although the BJP government showed an eagerness to try it. But the private bus operators cannot run their buses on cheap rates either.
The minimum fare has gone up from Rs2 to Rs5 for a Km or a little more, but passengers are less now, and there is a daily struggle to run of services.
The Bus owners associations had argued that oil bills had gone up, while seeking a rise in fares from Rs3 to 4 to 5.
The owners now accuse RTA bosses of pursuing a delaying tacties to their detriment, and have turned against RTA in 2 districts.
Either raise the bus fares in 3 days or face a decision to stop city buses in both districts is the challenge thrown at the RTAs by Canara Bus Owners’ Rajavarma Ballal and SK BUS Owners’ Bhaskar Salian and secretary Aziz Parthipady.
The government has not been taken up by the DCs in both districts. The High Court order on rates revision in 30 days was violated by RTAs, the bus owners charged.
