Mangalore : Mangalore City Corporators on Monday cut across party lines to express their resentment against DK Deputy Commissioner’s “interference” in MCC affairs which no previous DC had dared to do. They united for about 30 minutes, to criticize Subodh Yadav for his alleged probe into civic matters handled by MCC.
A former Mayor Shankar Bhat charged DC of dictating terms on water supply to Ullal and asking health officials to work in rural areas. R. Shantha and Shashidhar Hegde joined in this criticism of DC. D. Ashok asked Mayor Rajani Dugganna to allot a separate chair to DC at the Council meetings. They wanted DC’s guidance, but not his interference.
Harinath wanted the DC to scrap the city’s Master Plan using his own powers and not ask MCC to do so.
MCC Commissioner Dr. K.N. Vijay Prakash tried to pacify the enraged corporators saying that DC knew of City development plans and wanted to guide the Council in larger interests. He should not be mistaken as a dictator, the commissioner suggested to elected representatives.
The Mayor had to assure the upset corporaters, not in agreement with DC, that she would convey their views to him later on. The council review meeting continued thereafter.
