Mangalore: The Mangalore City Corporation will have a transportation hub (terminus) at Pumpwell near Kankanady soon, and a land of 7.23 acres at a cost of Rs. 7.50 crores has been acquired, the Commissioner informed the Press on Friday. Some more land would be also purchased in due course. He told cooperators in reply to their queries on the undue delay in constructing a bus depot that the plan was long raging and far-sighted for the growth of Mangalore, in the next-25 years. Rs 2 crores received from CM’s fund is reserved for this project, he said It will be used for preliminary works only.
BAN: Meanwhile, city Mayor Praveen Anchan has applied a Ban on protests and dharnas in the MCC(Office) limits. The roadside Vendors led by city, and construction workers from Bijapur added to swell their numbers on payment, are still in protest outside MCC promises against ‘Tiger’ Van prowls and eviction drive continued on Thursday last (June30). The Mayor said the Ban on protests would be strictly imposed in July hence forth.
The staging of protest is allowed only in a public place (like maidan), he declared. The eviction dive and clearance of goods on roadsides by Tiger Van will continue. But the Mayor promised to discuss the issue with minister Palemar and DC Chennappa Gowda and decide in 15 days about a suitable alternate place for roadside vendors to carry on.
