Mangalore : DK District Football Association commenced its 18th Independence Cup Football tournament at Nehru Maidan here on Wednesday July 30.

Mayor Mahabala Maarla inaugurated the tournament. The 17-day tournament will conclude on Independence Day.

Speaking after inauguration the City Corporation will try hard to support sports in district. He appreciated the Association conducting football every year.

The Association honoured the Mayor on the occasion.

Asha Timmappa Gowda Zilla Panchayat President was the chief guest.

A total of 214 teams have registered for the  tournament.
