26.06.10 Mangalore : The newly built city police Commissioner’s office in the Police Complex on Rosario Road in Pandeshwar in the port city was inaugurated today by the state Home Minister Dr. V.S. Acharya by lighting a lamp. Several dignitaries attended this opening ceremony on Saturday at noon. (June26).
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Acharya stated that DIG Seemanth Kumar Singh is the new CPC in Mangalore and he has completed the work entrusted to him. The commissionerate was formed here to stabilize and modernize the police system in the coastal region. Mangalore is the gateway to West Coast and the development of this region has to take shape from here only. of 4 Commissionerate in the entire state this will be the model one. It has, including Mudbidri, a jurisdiction of 600 sq, Kms, he stated. The old RPI building will be renovated by expert architects with Indian Vaastu in place and opened by 26-01-2011, he hoped.
The Home Minister sought the co-operation of local citizens in marinating law and order, besides public force. The local District minister J. Krishna Palemar presided over the inaugural meeting in city.
Palemar addressing the police said that in the days to come, a new Guest house had to be built and the present police colony has to undergo a total change to provide better amenities to all concerned.
A service station would come up near every police station for maintenance of vehicles and materials needed to run them. Closed circuit cameras would be set up in places where there are no bus stops. He said that the local police cadres are always ready to keep down crime rates and maintain peace in public life.
The state IGP / DGP, Ajai kumar Singh who also spoke in the celebrations, informed the audience that the commissionerate was formed to serve the people and care for their welfare. In an year’s time, new nameplates would be displayed before every police office in various places to show the names of officers and their phone numbers.
The public can make calls to police stations and officers concerning any complaint or event that needs police care. A public meeting will be arranged every third Sunday from 11 Am to 1Pm to provide information and to attend to complaints. The people can even directly meet the top officers or CPC if local police stations do not take down rural complaints, the DGP stated. He hoped that the citizens and police both would draw strength from the presence of the Mangalore city commissionerate office.
DKZP chief Santhosh Kumar Bhandary, KPCC chief and former deputy Home Minister B. Ramanath Rai, local MP Nalin Kumar Kateelu, IGP Gopal B.Hosur of the Western Range, DK DC V. Ponnuraj, and deputy Mayor Rajendra Kumar, among others adorned the dais.
