Mangaluru: The city police have decided to put an end to the menace of fish lorries disposing waste water on roads and had also held a meeting in this regard.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (law and order) Shantharaju discussed the issue with fish transporters, fish merchants and fish meal factory owners as to how they could end the problem.
Lorries are seen disposing waste water on roads in Mangaluru and those leading to Udupi; the water deposited on roads tend to pose a risk for motorists as it might cause the vehicle to skid.
Sources say that the meeting informed the attendees regarding norms on disposing waste water and also the legal action that could be taken.
DCP Shantharaju said that the police would issue a show-cause notice to fish meal factory owners in case the lorries spilt waste water on roads; further, a fine of up to Rs 500 will also be charged.
