Mangalore : The government is planning to implement ‘pay and park’ policy across State. It will definitely put a break to haphazard parking in the city, said M A Saleem, City Police Commissioner of Mysore.
He was addressing the members of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) during an interaction programme, here, on Monday.
“The city is seeing a drastic increase in vehicular traffic over the years. Every second person owns a vehicle. In a country like India, people do not opt eco-friendly vehicles like bicycle. Everyone wants to own a two-wheeler or a car, leading to the problem,” he said.
Explaining about the role of police in the society, Saleem said, though policing is an age-old practice, there has been no ‘crime-free’ nation in the world.
In India, policing was prevalent during the time of Kautilya, when the police caught thieves and prevented robberies.
“Over the years the number of roles played by the police has been extended to various categories. They are Law and Order, Crime and Traffic Management now,” he added.
Law and Order ensures that the freedom of the society is not infringed, Crime department prevents occurrence of crime, which too has transformed, equipped with technology to check the recent development, cyber crime.
Speaking about the crime scenario in Mysore city, Saleem stated, except for chain-snatching incidents, it is peaceful, compared to other cities.
