Mangaluru: Mangaluru City Traffic Police (MCTP) after complaints by the public on heavy noise vehicle horns in the city, conducted a ’Stop Shrill Horn’ drive on Tuesday to crack down the vehicles especially buses use air, vacuum horns. As a result of the drive, the police have removed air horns from over 70 buses in the city whereas bout 150 – 200 buses were intercepted and shrill horns removed from them.
The public in response to the drive conducted by the police has stated that, the drive against shrill horns is a good move. This drive should continue till all vehicles are forced to follow the traffic rules as the menace of loud horn is higher in Mangaluru when compared to Bengaluru city.
Tilak chandra, ACP (traffic), said that, “the MCTP’s drive against shrill horns will be continued and stringent action will be taken against repeat offenders. Horns that produce more than 65 db of noise have been removed from more than 150 buses. The drive is a part of an awareness programme and in the next phase, we will register cases and ask violators to pay penalty.”
