Mangaluru: “Central government has directed to form civil protection unit at Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada. As per the directions the units will be formed in next six months,” said Home Guard’s ADGP N Shivakumar.
He was speaking after visiting the Home Guard’s office at Maryhill.
“At present civil protection unit is functioning at Bengaluru, Raichur and Kaiga. Bengaluru unit is performing very well. During natural calamities civil protection unit should join hands with local governing bodies. So, the Central government has passed an order to form more units. Home Guard Chief Commandant will form the units,” he said.
He further said that 11000 home guards are performing their duty, but the demand for the HG’s is still increasing. Stipend of the HG’s has also increased. Guards are ready to join for the duty as some have completed their training.
“In DK the number of HG’s has been increased to 1000 from 800. Still there is a demand to depute more HG’s in many places. As soon as the police verification process gets completed, more HG’s will join to the duty,” he added.
Udupi HG Commandant Prashant, DK Commandant Murali Mohan Chuntharu and others were present.
